The Hoffman2 Cluster is a general-purpose high-performance computing research asset at the University of California, Los Angeles. All UCLA personnel who qualify under UCLA Policy 900 as principal investigators can request to become Hoffman2 Cluster Faculty Sponsors who can then sponsor any UCLA-affiliated students and researchers to become users of the system. Hoffman2 Cluster Faculty Sponsors ensure that the accounts they sponsor are granted and used for legitimate academic use as described in what follows. Accounts are reviewed and renewed on a set schedule.

A series of policies governs the access and use of the Hoffman2 Cluster to ensure fair, efficient and secure use of the HPC computing and storage facility to the UCLA community.

Failure to comply with the policies can result in suspension or deactivation of the user account.

Users of the Hoffman2 Cluster should abide by the following criteria:

  • Hoffman2 Cluster resources are intended for legal and ethical academic research purposes. Malicious activities that compromise the stability, performance and security of the platform are not allowed.

  • Hoffman2 Cluster resources are not intended for commercial purposes or personal (non academic) gain.

  • The use of applications to mine cryptocurrency or use block-chain technology for personal gain is forbidden.

  • Each Hoffman2 Cluster account is associated with one person and should be solely accessed by such individual.

  • Account and password sharing is strictly forbidden.

  • Users should take adequate measures to safeguard their credentials.

  • Hoffman2 Cluster users should abide by the UCLA set of Information Technology Policies & Procedures.

  • Hoffman2 Cluster users should abide by the policies stated hereafter.
